PETALING JAYA: Former manager Y Kohila has secured a civil court order for Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) to pay her more than RM366,000 for her unlawful dismissal due to allegations of misconduct following her involvement in political activities.
In an X posting, Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) revealed the outcome of the damage assessment with a photograph of Kohila standing outside the High Court alongside her legal team, led by Ambiga Sreenevasan.
“The court has ruled that the activist and former employee of BNM (Kohila) should be awarded compensation totalling RM366,062 and costs amounting to RM50,000,” it said.
On March 29, the High Court found BNM liable for Kohila’s dismissal seven years ago due to allegations of misconduct linked to her involvement in political activities.
Justice Ahmad Bache said Kohila was deprived of the right to be heard, which constituted a breach of natural justice, during both the domestic inquiry and the subsequent appeal process.
“Due to the unfair and unreasonable acts, she suffered loss and damages,” Ahmad said in his broad grounds of judgment delivered to allow her suit.
He also allowed Kohila’s declaration that her dismissal as an employee breached her employment contract.
