Blaze sends black smoke billowing across sky as families evacuated

An industrial blaze in Mansfield has seen black smoke billowing across the sky in a residential area this afternoon (Saturday). Firefighters have been on the scene on Forest Road since 4pm.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service says that 50 firefighters are currently attending. Video from the incident shows the dark smoke from an unidentified industrial site pouring across the sky.

People who live in the local residential area have been told to stay indoors and keep windows and doors closed. Crews are attending from Mansfield, Ashfield, Blidworth, Edwinstowe, Hucknall, Arnold, Warsop, Shirebrook, Maltby, Kibworth, Stapleford, Chesterfield, Worksop and Highfields at Forest Road.

The fire service also says residents of nearby properties along Forest Road and Sandhurst Avenue are being evacuated. Police have put road closures in place along Nottingham Road, Forest Road and Sandhurst Avenue.
