Follow our step-by-step guide to make your own holly wreath Christmas cards – the perfect way to use up scraps of fabric and felt

If you haven’t tried making your own Christmas cards before, why not give it a go! These cute holly wreath cards are so effective – and really easy to make.

They’re such a satisfying way of using up small scraps of felt and fabric leftover from other sewing projects. You could even add a ribbon bow to really make the most of using those odd little bits from your craft stash.

You can pick the size of wreath you’d like to make, but look out for large 8in x 8in blank cards if you’d like to make extra special large Christmas cards.

This card requires some basic hand sewing – but it’s really easy, and no previous sewing experience is required.

Some versions of glue sticks now are made from natural ingredients such as potato starch, sugar and water yet are still very strong and especially good for fabrics and particularly felts. Look out for packaging identifying these more natural ingredients.

Happy crafting!

You will need

  • Glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Needle
  • Sewing and embroidery thread

How to make

1. Cut out multiple holly leaves in different sizes from the felt. Embroider running stitch lines up the centre of the larger leaves, with some leaves with stitching veering to the left and some veering to the right.

2. Pinch one end of the smaller leaves to make a slightly curved in effect. Secure this pinch with a few small stitches.

3. Lightly draw a circle guide on the blank card and arrange the leaves on top. Layer and glue the leaves to the card, adding glue only to one end of each leaf.

4. Press interfacing to the reverse of the red fabric. Cut out small berries and glue to the leaves.
