SELANGOR folk are urged to take advantage of the Selangor Saring initiative which provides free health screenings for early detection of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

“This ensures that if a health condition is detected, it can be treated at a lower cost because of early intervention,” said Selangor public health and environment committee chairman Jamaliah Jamaluddin.

“The state government has allocated RM3.2mil under the Selangor 2024 Budget for this initiative, which is expected to benefit 12,000 recipients in all 56 state constituencies.”

She said the screenings cover NCDs such as heart disease, diabetes and hypertension.

There will also be checks for colorectal, prostate, cervical and breast cancer, eye-related conditions such as myopia (nearsightedness), glaucoma and retinal disorders, dental checks as well as physiotherapy.

Jamaliah was speaking after the Karnival Prihatin Kuala Langat 2024 event in Banting.

It saw more than 120 residents registering and undergoing various health checks.

Jamaliah said Selangor Saring was offered to those registered as a Selangor voter or have been residing in the state for at least 10 years.

Registration can be done through the Selangkah app or by contacting the Selcare customer service line at 1-800-22-6600.

Jamaliah added that each applicant was required to complete an initial screening form during the registration process, which aimed to identify the person’s background and risk factors.

Eligible individuals will receive a voucher to undergo the free health screenings at a designated location and date.
