BJAK looking for ‘win-win solution’ on road tax renewal
BJAK had offered road tax renewal free of charge and as an ‘optional service’ to customers.
PETALING JAYA: Insurance platform BJAK says it is working with the authorities to find a “win-win solution” after the road transport department (JPJ) said the company is not authorised to offer road tax renewal services.
In a statement, BJAK said it offers road tax renewal as an “optional service” for its customers, with its primary service being “auto insurance comparison and renewal”.
It said its road tax renewal service is offered to customers free of charge as part of an initiative to make renewals more convenient and cost-effective.
“While other platforms typically charge fees ranging from RM3 to RM11 for renewal services, BJAK has made the optional service complimentary for its customers,” it said.
“Previously, we passed on any charges to official JPJ providers.
“BJAK acknowledges the issues raised by JPJ and is actively working with the authorities to find a win-win solution that benefits customers.”
Earlier today, JPJ said BJAK has not been authorised by the transport ministry and JPJ to offer road tax renewal services.
The department said a statement posted on BJAK’s website that online road tax renewals at BJAK have been audited, verified, and approved by JPJ is “untrue and misleading”.
JPJ also said it had received complaints from the public that while their road tax renewals had been processed through the BJAK website, the validity period of their road tax was not updated.
It said it had also received complaints about additional fees charged by BJAK for road tax renewals.
JPJ said it encouraged the public to get their road tax renewed at JPJ counters, kiosks and mobile counters.
Alternatively, it suggested that the public use the MyJPJ application, JPJ public portal, and JPJ partner platforms such as PosMalaysia, MyEG, and Puspakom.
