Biggest gainers & losers of the day: TV18 hits upper circuit, Torrent Pharma bleeds

New Delhi: After a single session of recovery, benchmark indices were back in the red on Thursday as the US Federal Reserve spooked markets by announcing a timeline to raise interest rates. However, recovery in the final hour gave some hope to the markets.

The 30-share pack Sensex dropped 581.21 points or 1 per cent to 57,276.94. Its broader peer Nifty50 tanked 167.8 points or 0.97 per cent to 17,110.15. The broader markets plunged as BSE midcap and smallcap indices shed a per cent each.

Ajit Mishra, VP – Research, Religare Broking, said markets traded volatile and lost over a per cent, following weak global cues. After the gap down start, the benchmark inched lower in the first half. But healthy buying in the banking space pared the losses significantly.

GAINERS:

TV18 Broadcast: The broadcasting and cable TV player hit the upper circuit of 20 per cent to Rs 58.40 following reports that Uday Shankar and James Murdoch plan to pick up a significant stake in Viacom18, its joint venture.

Emkay Global Financial Services: The brokerage firm zoomed 19 per cent to Rs 128.15 as the company’s net profit reported jumped manifold to Rs 19.32 crore in the December 2021 quarter against Rs 1.25 crore during the quarter ended December 2020.

Thyrocare Technologies: The healthcare services player soared 16 per cent to Rs 1,050.20 on the back of high demand and strong technical set-up on the daily charts. The traded volume of the counter jumped manifold compared to the two-week average.

Gujarat Ambuja Exports: The agricultural products rallied 14 per cent to Rs 216.15 as the company remained in demand after they announced its decision to set up a greenfield corn wet milling plant at Sitarganj, Uttaranchal (Uttarakhand).

PSP Projects: The construction engineering company surged 12 per cent to Rs 577.95 after the company reported a 72 per cent rise in the net profit to Rs 50.13 crore in Q3, whereas sales jumped 24 per cent to Rs 485.62 crore.

La Opala RG: The glassware and crockery products player advanced 10 per cent to Rs 412.95 after its net profit in December 2021 quarter rose 28 per cent to Rs 32.49 crore against Rs 25.31 crore during the same quarter previous year.

Triveni Engineering & Industries: The smallcap sugar player climbed 9 per cent to Rs 265.10 ahead of its investor and analyst call scheduled on February 3.

LOSERS:

Torrent Pharmaceuticals: The pharmaceutical player tanked 15 per cent to Rs 2,689.10 following a flop show in the December 2021 quarter on muted performance in the US market. Its Q3 consolidated net profit declined by 16 per cent to Rs 249 crore.

Thangamayil Jewellery: The jewellery retailer dropped 11 per cent to Rs 1,205.85 after the company reported a 58 per cent decline in the net profit to Rs 11.31 crore for the quarter ended December 2021 against Rs 26.90 crore during the December 2020 quarter.

Zomato: The food delivery platform shed 10 per cent, its daily circuit limit, to Rs 90.50. The meltdown in technology stocks has been weighing homegrown start-ups. From its all-time high levels, Zomato is trading down by 48 per cent.

Indiamart Intermesh: The B2B e-commerce firm slumped 9 per cent to Rs 4,5,60.05 as the company reported a poor set of numbers in Q3. Its consolidated net profit declined 12.4 per cent to Rs 70.2 crore in the December 2021 quarter.

Coforge: The IT solution provider fell 8 per cent to Rs 4,400.60 following the sharp sell-off in the IT stocks lately. The counter has given up 18 per cent in the last one week, data suggests.

ABB India: The Engineering services company fell 7 per cent to Rs 2,228.55 ahead of the board meeting scheduled on February 10 to consider and approve the results for the quarter ended on December 31, 2021.
