Biden to tax the country's richest to fund multi-trillion-dollar US budget

US President Joe Biden has urged lawmakers to support his multi-trillion-dollar budget package, which includes increased taxes for high-income earners.

In a speech outlining his economic plan, President Biden urged Democrat legislators to resolve their differences and pass his $3.5 trillion plan to address climate change and expand the nation’s social safety net.

“I believe we’re at an inflection point in this country, those moments where the decisions we’re about to make can literally change the trajectory of our nation for years and possibly decades to come,” he said.

Moderates in the party remain uncertain over the proposal which will see taxes from the country’s richest – the top one per cent of American earners – used to fund the budget package.
