Cold nights, mornings back as ‘Amihan’ may re-enter PH

MANILA, Philippines: The northeast monsoon or “amihan,” which is now outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), may re-enter the country, bringing with it cold nights and mornings that may last until the end of March, the state-run weather bureau said on Friday.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that with the re-emergence of amihan, there is a “slim chance” that a tropical cyclone may enter the PAR until the end of February.

“Slowly in the coming days, amihan would re-enter the country, specifically in Luzon, and would again bring cold nights and mornings and would last maybe until the second week of March,” weather specialist Benison Estareja said.

The Pagasa forecaster said the easterlies, winds coming from the east, passing through the Pacific Ocean and carrying warm and humid weather, are currently affecting the entire archipelago, bringing overcast skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Northern Mindanao, Caraga and Davao Region.

The state-run weather agency said the same weather system, along with the localized thunderstorms, is affecting Metro Manila and the rest of the country where partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated downpours or thunderstorms may prevail.
