Biden criticizes the MEDIA for reporting on empty shelves during the supply chain crisis and insists America is on the way to recovery after another dismal jobs report missed expectations by 333,000

Biden accused the media of using old photos as he suggested his administration has gotten a handle the supply chain crisis'The point is that the vast majority of the shelves are filled and the CEOs of not only the suppliers but the CEOs of UPS and FedEx ... are saying the same thing'His remarks came on the heels of a less-than-impressive jobs report finding U.S. employers added just 210,000 jobs in November

President Biden pushed back on reporting of empty shelves ahead of the holiday season, and accused the media of using old photos as he suggested his administration has gotten a handle the supply chain crisis.

‘On Monday, I convened a group of CEOs some of the largest retailers and grocery stores as well as leading companies that works with small businesses across the country, and they reported that their investments are up, shelves are well-stocked, and they’re ready to meet consumer demand for the holidays,’ said Biden.

‘Now I said that yesterday and then I saw a couple of your stations put on — you found some empty shelves. They’re old empty shelves, but it doesn’t matter. But go back and take a look at some of those shelves again, okay?’ he continued.

‘But the point is that the vast majority of the shelves are filled and the CEOs of not only the suppliers but the CEOs of UPS and FedEx, which are on track to deliver more packages than ever, are saying the same thing.’

His remarks came on the heels of a less-than-impressive jobs report finding U.S. employers added just 210,000 jobs in November, well below the estimated half a million that economists had predicted.

Experts had predicted 550,000 jobs to be added.

Still, Biden painted a rosy picture of the economy, citing unemployment down to 4.2%.

‘We’re looking at the sharpest one-year decline in unemployment ever,’ he said. ‘Simply put, America is back to work.’

On Thursday he also sounded optimistic that shelves will be stocked over the holidays and insisted the supply chain crisis was coming to an end.

‘Now I can’t promise that every person will get every gift they want on time – only Santa Claus can keep that promise,’ Biden said, adding that ‘there are items every year that sell out, that are hard to find.’

He noted that ‘some of you moms and dads may remember Cabbage Patch Kids in the 80s or Beanie Babies in the 90s’, when short supplies meant they were hard to come by.

‘But we’re heading into a holiday season in very strong shape,’ he said, adding he believed store shelves would be stocked.

This week the Federal Trade Commission formally launched an inquiry into supply chain disruptions, ordering nine large retailers, wholesalers, and consumer good suppliers to hand over data to shed light on what’s behind ongoing supply chain disruptions.

‘Supply chain disruptions are upending the provision and delivery of a wide array of goods, ranging from computer chips and medicines to meat and lumber. I am hopeful the FTC’s new 6(b) study will shed light on market conditions and business practices that may have worsened these disruptions or led to asymmetric effects,’ said FTC Chair Lina Khan said in a statement Monday.

And on Thursday, the supply chain crisis came for chicken tenders, the meal of choice for children all across America. Shoppers have reported having a harder time tracking them down and the US Department of Agriculture reports that the price of chicken tenders is up almost $1 per pound.

Chicken tenders join other household foods like maple syrup, wine and spirits, takeout containers and coffee cups among products that have been difficult to find or shot up in price recently due to pandemic-related shortagess.
