Biden achaca a la "xenofobia" los problemas económicos de China, Japón e India

WASHINGTON, 2 may (Reuters) – El presidente de EEUU, Joe Biden, afirmó el miércoles que la “xenofobia” de China a Japón e India está lastrando su crecimiento, al tiempo que defendió que la inmigración ha sido buena para la economía estadounidense.

“Una de las razones por las que nuestra economía está creciendo es gracias a ustedes y a muchos otros. ¿Por qué? Porque damos la bienvenida a los inmigrantes”, dijo Biden en un acto de recaudación de fondos en Washington para su campaña de reelección en 2024 y que marcaba el inicio del Mes de la Herencia Asiática, Nativa de Hawái y de las Islas del Pacífico.

“Por qué China se está estancando tanto económicamente, por qué Japón tiene problemas, por qué Rusia, por qué India, porque son xenófobos. No quieren inmigrantes. Los inmigrantes son lo que nos hace fuertes”.

El Fondo Monetario Internacional pronosticó el mes pasado que cada país vería desacelerarse su crecimiento en 2024 respecto al año anterior, desde el 0,9% en el muy desarrollado Japón hasta el 6,8% en la emergente India.

Las previsiones apuntan a un crecimiento del 2,7% en Estados Unidos, ligeramente superior al 2,5% del año pasado. Muchos economistas atribuyen los resultados mejores de lo previsto en parte a que los migrantes están ampliando la mano de obra del país.

La preocupación por la inmigración irregular se ha convertido en un tema prioritario para muchos votantes estadounidenses de cara a las elecciones presidenciales de noviembre.

Biden, que ha tachado de antiinmigrante la retórica de su oponente republicano Donald Trump, se ha esforzado por entablar amplias relaciones económicas y políticas con países como Japón e India para contrarrestar a China y Rusia a escala mundial.
