Edward Motale selects his preferred defence pairing as Bafana Bafana will meet Mali on Tuesday – the legendary defender picks Mothobi Mvala.
Motale says coach Hugo Broos must use two central defenders from Mamelodi Sundowns and that is Mvala and Grant Kekana.

Bafana will get their Group E AFCON campaign underway on Tuesday night and a lot is expected from Bafana – the legendary defender explains his defence choices.
Motale says Broos must select Sundowns players for Bafana’s defence to be solid because Mvala and Kekana have been playing together for a long time.
The Orlando Pirates and Bafana legend was part of the Bafana side that won the AFCON in 1996 – he argues that right-back Khuliso Mudau and Aubrey Modiba should also play as the right and left-back.

LEGENDARY DEFENDER SELECTS BAFANA DEFENCE PAIRING
Looking at the most recent matches, the Belgian mentor, Broos paired Nkosinathi Sibisi with Siyanda Xulu or Mvala and Xulu in the centre-back – but the legend selects his choices.
“If I was the coach – and he didn’t have enough time to work on combinations – I would rather stick to a combination that I have, which is the Sundowns one,” Motale explained per Sowetan.

“It doesn’t need much. You just bring a solid structure, which is Sundowns and you take it from there. Then you start introducing other players.
“In the centre-back position, I would put Kekana and Mvala because they have been playing together for a long time.”

Apart from lifting the AFCON trophy on homesoil under the late legendary coach Clive Barker, Motale also helped Pirates clinch the CAF Champions League in 1995.
“Mvala is the senior. He can also marshal very well. I think the reason he selected more of the Sundowns core is because of those combinations and more understanding because he had only two weeks to bring other players,” adds the celebrated legend.
