Best NFL Wide Receiver Trios: Where Do the Dolphins and Titans Rank Following Their Big WR Signings?

best nfl wide receiver trios: where do the dolphins and titans rank following their big wr signings?

NFL teams prove they’re never shying away from adding weaponry to the wide receiver position, even if that room already features multiple star-caliber players. Consider the Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans as the latest examples.

Both have added to their already stacked WR room in the last week through Odell Beckham Jr. and Tyler Boyd, respectively. Now, it’s time to see where they rank in the echelon of top WR trios across the league heading into 2024.

Top NFL Wide Receiver Trios

10) Tennessee Titans

Trio: De’Andre Hopkins, Calvin Ridley, Tyler Boyd

It’s not knocking Tennessee being ranked this low. It’s just that these three are set to play for a new head coach in Brian Callahan, so the offensive results are still to be determined.

Still, Callahan has a stout threesome to work with, featuring three past 1,000-yard wideouts for young quarterback Will Levis with the signings of both Calvin Ridley and Boyd to complement DeAndre Hopkins.

One huge bonus from the Boyd signing is that it will be a seamless transition for him from Cincinnati, as Callahan was his offensive coordinator the last four seasons with the Bengals.

9) Minnesota Vikings

Trio: Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, Brandon Powell

Justin Jefferson has the glistening résumé. Even limited to just 10 games, the All-Pro WR still surpassed 1,000 yards. 2023 first-rounder Jordan Addison didn’t disappoint in his NFL debut, snatching 70 catches and leading the way with 10 touchdowns.

Brandon Powell, though, moves into the possible WR3 role for the Minnesota Vikings after the departure of K.J. Osborn. This gives Powell a chance to once again prove he’s more than a kick returner and can surpass the 30-catch mark for the first time in his career.

Bear in mind, too, that this trio has a new quarterback to work with in rookie J.J. McCarthy.

8) Cincinnati Bengals

Trio: Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, Trent Irwin

It appears Tee Higgins won’t be moved after he requested a trade earlier this offseason. Between Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase, the Bengals have one of the best duos at the position in the NFL.

But the Bengals fall to eighth in our rankings because of Boyd’s departure, leaving them rather thin at wide receiver behind their dynamic duo. Now, the Bengals will have to turn to an unproven player at the position to replace their long-time WR3.

Veteran Trenton Irwin is most likely the next man up, but the Bengals also just drafted Jermaine Burton in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. In four combined seasons at Georgia and Alabama in college, Burton displayed plenty of talent, but fell in the draft due to character concerns.

7) San Francisco 49ers

Trio: Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, Ricky Pearsall

This ranking is rather tricky.

While San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch has denied attempting to trade Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel, the selection of Ricky Pearsall in the first round still scratched several heads across the league.

Many are wondering how involved the rookie WR will be in an offense glutted with receiving options — even outside of the WR room.

But if these three work in unison right away, this trio is capable of trekking up immediately and threatening the No. 1 WR trio spot.

6) Los Angeles Rams

Trio: Cooper Kupp, Puka Nacua, Tutu Atwell

While Puka Nacua was the breakout surprise in Los Angeles, this is still an offense tailored made for Copper Kupp.

Kupp, however, has had trouble staying healthy for a full season. Many will wonder if Nacua can duplicate or surpass his 2023 production. Atwell, the 2021 second-rounder, has shown flashes but is yet to top 40 receptions in a season and has only one 100-yard outing.

Atwell now has new competition in the re-signed Demarcus Robinson and 2024 NFL Draft selection Jordan Whittington.

But this WR trio, when together, is a glistening one near Tinseltown.

5) Philadelphia Eagles

Trio: A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, DeVante Parker

Here’s how deep the league is when it comes to WR trios: The Philadelphia Eagles are capable of having the top trio, but others on this list present the counterargument of having the deeper room.

Still, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith together make up one of the NFL’s most feared WR duos. And if DeVante Parker finds a way to recapture his 2019 form when he surpassed 1,000 yards, the Eagles will claim the top trio by season’s end.

4) Chicago Bears

Trio: D.J. Moore, Keenan Allen, Rome Odunze

Not since the days of Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman has there ever been a more highly-anticipated trio in the Windy City before they worked together.

The NFL has already seen how consistent Keenan Allen is. DJ Moore is a perennial 1,000-yard threat. And Rome Odunze was a gift selection for the Chicago Bears at No. 9.

Their success all depends, however, on how quickly No. 1 pick Caleb Williams establishes chemistry with each of them.

3) Seattle Seahawks

Trio: DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, Jaxon Smith-Njigba

The Seattle Seahawks hold the edge over Chicago based on the fact this trio already has cohesion with their QB.

Pro Bowl QB Geno Smith and the Hawks witnessed this group combine for 17 touchdowns last season during their 9-8 campaign.

DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett have been one of the NFL’s best duos for a while, and 2023 first-round pick Jaxon Smith-Njigba could be poised for a breakout campaign after a promising rookie season.

2) Miami Dolphins

Trio: Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Odell Beckham Jr.

This feels like three exotic race cars in Miami.

Perhaps this is the most star-powered trio in the NFL, with Beckham giving Miami a much-needed receiving threat in addition to their dynamic duo.

Tyreek Hill is coming off the most productive season of his career, Jaylen Waddle is one of the best young receivers in the NFL, and while he might be past his prime, Beckham is still one of the more talented WR3s in the league.

1) Houston Texans

Trio: Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins, Tank Dell

The city of Houston has long embraced duos like Alex Bregman and Justin Verlander, Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler, and even musical acts UGK and Beyonce/Megan Thee Stallion.

But it won’t be long before Houston embraces a “big three” inside NRG Stadium at wide receiver.

Nico Collins emerged as a star in 2023, and Tank Dell put together a stout rookie campaign before his season-ending leg injury. Now, four-time Pro Bowler Stefon Diggs has been added to the mix.

Oh, they also have fast-rising QB and NFL Rookie of the Year C.J. Stroud throwing them the ball. Defensive coordinators facing the Texans are bound to have insomnia thinking about this WR trio working with Stroud.
