1. Ticket to Ride

A rail-themed adventure

Very replayable
Family friendly
Plenty of editions available
Might find boring

Choo! Choo! It’s time to go on a great rail adventure! But don’t worry, you don’t have to leave the comfort of your home for this trip. Ticket to Ride is easy to pick up and fun for the whole family. The aim of the game is to collect various types of train cars in order to claim railway routes across the country – or continent. The original edition is set in North America, but there are other versions set in different world regions to choose from.

The game’s tension comes when you have to decide whether to expand your rail empire or add more train cars to your collection – while you’re building your collection, your competitor may be claiming all the most valuable routes. Ticket to Ride may be simple but it packs in hours of fun.

2. Catan

A true classic

Decent length
Very replayable
A good gateway to other strategy board games
Can take some time to get to grips with

Can I trade wood for sheep, please? Catan (officially called Settlers of Catan) is one of the very best board games of all time, and it adorns millions of tabletop collections across the world. It’s simple to get your head around – you want as many resources as possible to build as much as you can, and therefore score points – plus it’s somehow highly tactical at the same time as you rush to claim resources before the other players.

If you’re looking for a stepping stone game between a more traditional board game like Monopoly or Cluedo to something a bit more specialist, Catan is that perfect transition.

3. Gloomhaven

A chunky gameplay experience

Hours of playtime
Like playing a tabletop RPG without a GM
Lots of expansions
It’s very long
A very chunky box

A drawback of Dungeons & Dragons can be that you always need a Dungeon Master – or more generically a Game Master – who controls every NPC and the world the players interact with. If you don’t have someone in your group who wants to take on this task, you can’t play. Gloomhaven takes that control for itself and frees you and your friends up to be the players in the game’s fantasy world full of classic dungeon crawl experiences.

In this there are compromises, Gloomhaven is only playable for one to four people and your choice of actions is limited to what the game can account for – it’s also pretty pricey to boot (though Black Friday discounts can soften that blow) – but if you want to get the Dungeons & Dragons experience without a DM, it’s one of the better ways to achieve that.

Nothing that takes your fancy? Check out our guides to the best board games, the best board games for two players, the best tabletop RPGs and the best card games for other titles to keep an eye out for this Cyber Monday.

Should you pick up a Cyber Monday board game deal?

If you’re on the hunt for some fantastic board games ahead of Christmas, then Cyber Monday is definitely one of the best times to pick them up at a discount. The best board games Cyber Monday deals mean you can pick up a range of brilliant board games, ranging from classics like Monopoly to more strategic titles Like Gloomhaven, for a discount – meaning you may be able to pick up a few within your budget. Though these discounts aren’t as substantial as we seen during Black Friday, they’re still worth a look as some Black Friday deals have carried on to Cyber Monday.

Board games can be expensive so this is a great chance to save some money and fill your board game library with brilliant games that will keep you, your friends, and family, busy throughout the holiday season. We don’t tend to see massive discounts on board games throughout the year, so this sales period is definitely the best time to secure savings.

Where are the best board games Cyber Monday deals?

In the US, Walmart and Amazon tend to have the best board game deals on Cyber Monday. Last year, for example, Walmart sold the ever-engaging Catan at half price. Amazon also saw sizeable discounts on usually expensive games like Gloomhaven, making the online retailer an ideal choice for your board game purchases on Cyber Monday.

Over to the UK, then, last year’s best board game deals certainly weren’t as strong, with decidedly smaller discounts across most retailers than the US. While Amazon saw some good deals with games like Ticket to Ride and Betrayal at House on the Hill, most deals certainly weren’t anything to write home about.

It’s worth keeping an eye on these retailers again this year, as they are the most likely to have the best board game Cyber Monday deals.
