The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to release advertisements for the new head coach of Indian men’s cricket soon, reveals Jay Shah on Friday (May 10), and he stated that Rahul Dravid’s current contract is only till the end of the T20 World Cup 2024. The BCCI secretary said that the former Indian captain is free to apply for another stint with the Men in Blue if he wants to, and he also didn’t rule out the possibility of the appointment of a foreign coach.
“Rahul’s tenure is only up to June. So, if he wants to apply, he is free to do so,” the BCCI secretary was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz on Friday.
According to the 35-year-old, other members of India’s coaching staff, which includes batting, bowling, and fielding coaches, will be decided after consultation with the new coach.

“We cannot determine whether the new coach will be Indian or foreign. It will be up to the CAC, and we are a global body,” the BCCI official said.
He also hinted that the BCCI is unlikely to consider different coaches for different formats, like England and Pakistan.
“That decision will also be made by the CAC. There are many all-format players, like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Rishabh Pant, among others. Moreover, there is no precedent for such a situation in India.”

According to Shah, the new coach will be appointed for a long term and will serve for an initial period of three years.
Decision on Impact Player
The BCCI secretary was also asked about the impact player rule in the IPL, and he said that any decision on its continuation will be decided after consultation with captains and coaches.
“Impact Player was a test case. Two new Indian players are getting a chance in the IPL. We will discuss with the stakeholders—franchise and broadcasters—before deciding on the continuation of the Impact Player. It’s not permanent, but no one has provided feedback against the rule,” he said.
Central contract for Iyer & Ishan
The BCCI secretary also told reporters that decision to include Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer in BCCI’s central contracts will be taken by chief selector Ajit Agarkar. The duo was snubbed from the list released in March after skipping Ranji Trophy matches. He also revealed that Hardik Pandya, who has been awarded an A grade in Central Contracts, has agreed to play white-ball domestic cricket.
