BBC finally confirms future of three hit antiques shows after break from air

The BBC have confirmed that they have commissioned a brand new series of the hit show Antiques Road Trip with production company STV Studios. The show began airing in 2010 and has been on-air for a whopping 27 series, with the last instalment airing in December.

The celebrity version started in 2011, and it’s 12th series ended in January this year. Fans at home will be pleased to know that BBC Daytime have recommissioned both versions, along with The Travelling Auctioneers, so viewers will have plenty of antiques related content to look forward to.

The format of the show sees two antiques expert pitted against one another, as they are both given a budget to buy antiques and collectibles which are then sold at auction.

During a 2017 episode of the BBC show which was recently re-aired again, dealer Charles Hanson was left red-faced when looking for items to try and make a profit from at auction.

Viewers saw Charles and Christina Trevanion start their travels in Manchester before heading to Birkenhead.

While browsing through objects at an antique shop, Charles saw one item which caught his eye. Picking up the object, he quipped: “This is George IV. It’s a duelling-type pistol and it’s 188-years-old.

“You can see that because its handle here is just about to fall off.” It looked as though the dealer spoke too soon as when Charles went to put the item back on display it broke.

Reeling at what he’d done, he commented: “Oops, it has fallen off actually. Oh dear me, well that’s just great, isn’t it? I might have to buy it now just regardless.”

The voiceover of the show found the ordeal hilarious as Tim Wonnacott burst into laughter before commenting: “Silly boy!”
