A six-year-old girl has died nine days after a horrific road accident.
Hannah Meshkat passed away in Dublin’s Temple Street Children’s Hospital on Saturday. She was rushed there following the horror single-vehicle collision in Co Westmeath on February 8.
It is understood tragic Hannah was a passenger in a vehicle with her father and nine-year-old brother, who were not seriously injured in the crash on the M6.
Sources say the little girl was left with catastrophic injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in left the road onto an embankment and flipped over.
The girl and her family are understood to be from Co Galway and were passing through the area when the accident occurred.
Speaking to the Irish Mirror local councillor in Westmeath, Liam McDaniel, said: “Condolences to the family and all sympathies to them. That’s on my behalf and on behalf of the council. It’s so sad.”
Gardai in Mullingar are renewing their appeal for witnesses. Those with camera footage, including dash cam, from the M6 between Junction 3 and Junction 4 at the time of the collision are urged to provide this footage to investigating gardai.
Anyone with information is requested to contact Mullingar Garda Station on 044 938 4000, or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
Hannah’s death comes as a man in his 20s died following a road crash in the Foulkstown area of Co Kilkenny in the early hours of Saturday. The man, who was the driver of the car in the single-vehicle accident, died at the scene on the N10 at around 3.25am.
His body was taken to Waterford University Hospital where a postmortem examination is due to take place.
