Brit, 50, arrested over Austrian ski resort nose-bite brawl: Tourist held and two others, 50 and 67, identified by cops over vicious fight that saw chunk of UK holidaymaker's nose gnawed off

The 50-year-old alleged attacker has now been sent to Innsbruck Prison

A 50-year-old Brit who allegedly gnawed off part of another UK holidaymaker’s nose in a fight in an Austrian ski resort has been arrested by local cops.

The vicious brawl, which broke out on Sunday evening in the resort of St Anton began in a bar but ended up on the street, where punches and kicks were thrown and ultimately, the biting occurred.

After the fight was broken up, the victim of the assault, a 29-year-old man, was taken to the hospital whilst the attackers escaped into the nearby pedestrian area of St. Anton am Arlberg.

The main alleged attacker has since been arrested after a police search and was taken to Innsbruck Prison.

The two accomplices, aged 50 and 67 have now also been identified according to Austrian newspaper Krone.

A police spokesman said: ‘Based on extensive investigations and tips from the public, three British holiday guests – 50, 50 and 67 years old – were identified as the perpetrators.

‘The 50-year-old main perpetrator was arrested on the orders of the Innsbruck public prosecutor’s office and taken to the Innsbruck prison.’

The prison was in the news last year after an ex-inmate accused a prison guard of psychological torture which led to serious investigation.

It is not yet known how long the arrested Brit will spend there.

The resort of St Anton is known for its wild party life and brawls are not uncommon.

The incident comes at a time when skiers are facing the effects of a mild winter that has led to many slopes becoming entirely snowless.

One such place which is suffering from the slippery slope of climate change is the 7,274ft Mount Terminillo in Italy’s Apennine Mountains, where it has become too hot to even use the backup fake snow cannons.

The skiing industry as a whole, however, may need not worry, as according to Skistar.com, at least as of a 2020 report, ski numbers aren’t dwindling.

Of the 2,000 plus alpine skiing destinations in the world, the annual number of skier days globally has remained relatively stable at around 400 million.

The Alps accounts for almost half of these ski days at 43 per cent.
