BAN-W vs IND-W: Harmanpreet Kaur powers India to win vs Bangladesh in landmark game

India continued their dominance in Bangladesh after they took a 4-0 lead in the ongoing 5-match T20I series. For skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, not only was the game memorable as India won by 56 runs (DLS), but also because she completed 300 international appearances. She became the fifth cricketer to reach the landmark after India’s Mithali Raj (333), New Zealand’s Suzie Bates (317), Australia’s Ellyse Perry (314) and England’s Charlotte Edwards (309).

The fourth T20I at the Sylhet International Stadium was hit by rain quite a few times. After being asked to bat first, the visitors scored 122 for 6 in 14 overs when the heavens opened up. Shafali Varma perished in single digits, but the others chipped in with useful scores. Skipper Harmanpreet was their standout batter after she scored 39 runs off 26 balls with 5 fours.

Smriti Mandhana, Dayalan Hemalatha and Richa Ghosh chipped in with useful scores of 22, 22 and 24 respectively.  Marufa Akter and Rabeya Khan were the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers with 2 wickets apiece. Pacer Habiba Islam Pinky, who made her debut at the age of 14 years and 340 days, had figures of 2-0-20-0. Shorifa Khatun got the wicket of Shafali in the very first ball of her spell.

Deepti, Asha take India home

Chasing a revised target of 125 after a rain delay, Bangladesh struggled as they scored only 21 runs in the 4-over powerplay and lost the wicket of Murshida Khatun. Dilara Akter and Rubya Haider Jhelik got into double digits, but could not carry on. While Deepti Sharma accounted for the wicket of Dilara, Jhelik got run out after a terrible mix-up with skipper Nigar Sultana Joty.

Joty could not make an impact with the bat either after Asha Sobhana trapped her plumb in front. At the age of 33, Sobhana became the oldest debutant for India in women’s cricket. Sobhana also got the wicket of Shorna Akter to finish with figures of 3-0-18-2. Deepti also kept a lid on the run-scoring after she picked up 2 wickets and gave away only 13 runs.

Pooja Vastrakar and Radha Yadav picked up one wicket apiece, while Titas Sadhu, who replaced Renuka Singh Thakur, could not make a breakthrough.
