Babysitter accused of raping baby and molesting children faces new charges

online

A babysitter accused of raping a baby and molesting three other children has been charged with a further 190 sickening offences.

The Bennett Springs man was arrested in August and initially charged with 14 offences, however police confirmed the additional charges after his appearance in Perth Magistrates Court today.

The 23-year-old is now facing a total of 204 child abuse offences, including sexual penetration and producing child sexual abuse material.

The charges relate to 12 child victims aged between eight months and nine years, with police alleging the offences occurred while he was employed as a babysitter between July 2020 and August 2021.

The man allegedly advertised his services through an online babysitting service.

Child abuse squad detectives searched the man’s home in August, when they allegedly seized child exploitation material, multiple Gel blasters and edged weapons.

Detectives initially charged the man with 14 offences, which included sexually assaulting a child younger than 12 months old and taking a series of photographs and videos of the child in August.

The investigation is ongoing and detectives have urged anyone with information to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report it online.

If you are or have been a victim of sexual abuse, or if you have information about someone being abused, please contact police on 131 444.
