B.C. government warning of increased fire risk in northeastern region this weekend
Most of British Columbia is beginning to experience warmer weather, with some regions expecting temperatures of up to 30°C this weekend. With these heightened temperatures, we may see an increase in wildfire activity, particularly in the Northeast. Minister Ralston will speak more to this, but I want to encourage everyone, particularly those living in the Northeast, to remain vigilant and to be prepared. I know we’re all looking forward to summer to enjoy the warm weather and travel to different parts of our beautiful province. As the weather warms, it is a good time to start getting prepared for the different hazards that come with summertime. And with it being Emergency Preparedness Week, there is no better time to take those few extra steps to prepare for potential emergencies than right now, This year’s theme for Emergency Preparedness Week. Is using technologies before, during and after emergencies. Our government uses a wide range of technology to prepare for and to respond to emergencies. From a new online tool to help emergency responders find commercial accommodation for people who need to evacuate, to issuing urgent emergency alerts directly to people through phones, television and radio. Yesterday a test alert was sent through the system at 10:55 AM. And during urgent situations, the province will issue emergency alerts like the one you received yesterday to deliver critical information to people who may be at risk.
