The Indian men’s cricket team is engaged in a five-match Test series with England these days. The first match of the red-ball assignment is taking place at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. At the end of the second day’s play on Friday (January 26), India has extended its first-inning lead to 175 runs and still has three wickets in hand. The hosts are in pole position to go on and win the match to go 1-0 up in the series.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma’s decision to go with three spinners who can also bat has proved to be a masterstroke, as after taking eight wickets in the first innings, the trio of R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel have scored more than 110 runs.

Before the start of the first Test in Hyderabad, Indian players attended the Naman Awards organised by the BCCI, in which the top performers in recent years were awarded by the broad. In one of the videos from that event, which is now going viral on the internet, Indian skipper Rohit can be seen imitating his teammates from the past and present.

In the clip, he can be seen playing his pull shot, MS Dhoni’s helicopter shot, Sachin Tendulkar’s upper cut, Suryakumar Yadav’s supla shot, copying Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling action, and doing Virat Kohli’s energetic celebration after any Indian bowler takes wicket of opposition batters. He also copied Shubman Gill’s celebration of taking a bow after completing a century.

During the BCCI awards, Bumrah won the Polly Umrigar Award for Best International Cricketer (Men) for his heroics in the 2021–22 season, and Gill bagged the same prize for his performance in the 2022–23 season. Young Indian opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 80 runs in the first innings of the ongoing Test against England, won the Best International Debut award for India in the 2022–23 season.
