Authorities are investigating a possible shark attack near an oil and gas operation in Western Australia’s north.
A shark was first spotted about 8am on Wednesday off Varanus Island, near Onslow, in the Pilbara region.
“Fisheries officers are investigating a reported shark bite incident off Varanus Island,” Surf Life Saving WA tweeted.
The incident was reported at 10.30am.

Santos operates a gas processing facility in the area.
Varanus Island is about 120km west of Karratha and some 115km north of Onslow.
