Australien: Proteste gegen obligatorische Impfungen in der Baubranche

In der australischen Millionenstadt Melbourne ist es erneut zu Protesten gegen die Corona-Politik der Regierung gekommen.

Hunderte Bauarbeiter, viele von ihnen in Warnschutzkleidung, demonstrierten am Dienstag zunächst vor dem Gebäude der Gewerkschaft CFMEU (Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union). Ihre Wut richte sich gegen die obligatorischen Corona-Impfungen für die Baubranche, berichtete die australische Nachrichtenagentur AAP. Anschliessend zog die Menge in Richtung Regionalparlament weiter, bevor sie eine Schnellstrasse blockierte.

Dabei sei es auch zu kleineren Zusammenstössen mit der Polizei gekommen: Die Sicherheitskräfte hätten Gummigeschosse abgefeuert, die Demonstrierenden hätten leere Flaschen und Dosen in Richtung der Beamten geworfen, hiess es. Die Regierung des Bundesstaates Victoria hatte zuletzt angeordnet, dass sich alle Mitarbeiter der Bauindustrie gegen das Virus impfen lassen müssen.

Am Montag hatten die Behörden angekündigt, dass die gesamte Bauindustrie in Melbourne und anderen Teilen Victorias für zwei Wochen geschlossen wird. Am 5. Oktober müssen Beschäftigte dann nachweisen, dass sie zumindest eine Impfdosis erhalten haben, bevor sie an ihre Arbeitsplätze zurückkehren. Der Bundesstaat im Osten Australiens befindet sich seit Wochen weitgehend im Lockdown – es ist bereits das sechste Mal seit Beginn der Pandemie.

Bereits am Wochenende war es in Melbourne zu Anti-Lockdown-Protesten gekommen. Hunderte Teilnehmer wurden festgenommen. Auch in anderen Städten, darunter in Sydney und Brisbane, gab es am Wochenende Demos gegen die strikten Corona-Massnahmen.

Das Land mit seinen rund 25 Millionen Einwohnern hat viele Monate lang eine Null-Covid-Strategie verfolgt und versucht, das Virus mit geschlossenen Aussengrenzen und strikten Lockdowns auszumerzen. Mit der Ausbreitung der Delta-Variante mussten aber bereits mehrere Regionalpremiers einräumen, dass die Strategie nicht mehr aufgeht.
