More excuses for Cavin Johnson after another Chiefs defeat

Kaizer Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson spoke out after his side suffered a 10th league defeat of the season.

A second-half goal by Simphiwe Mcineka saw the Natal Rich Boys move eight points clear of bottom-placed Cape Town Spurs. For Amakhosi, it was their 10th league defeat of the season as the Soweto giants dropped to 10th on the log with six matches remaining.

Having lost to relegation-threatened Richards Bay, Cavin Johnson Chiefs’ lack of finishing was the reason for their defeat.

“We missed so many chances, we had to be so calm on the ball in the first half, I think it came in the second half as well. We had about 85% ball possession and we just not coming up to put the ball into the back of the net,” he told SuperSport.

“And I think that was the only shot they had on goal was the corner kick where they scored the goal from. But, what can you do? It’s like a stuck record, we have to go back and make sure we are able to put the ball into the back of the net because everything else is there, we are just not putting the ball into the back of the net.”

Having suffered their 10th defeat of the season, Cavin Johnson is underpressure to get Chiefs into the top eight. The 65-year-old mentor has refused to blame his players, saying everyone in the team needs to take the blame for the loss.

“I don’t think it’s the players, it’s all of us. We have to take responsibility, I have to do something else, we have to do something else to make sure that they are in the right space, in the right mind,” Johnson added.

Another defeat for Chiefs might force the club management to sack Cavin Johnson with only five matches remaining.
