Guan Eng slams Muhyiddin for ‘U-turn’ in defending presidency
GEORGE TOWN: DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng has slammed Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin for his U-turn on the party presidency.
Yesterday, Muhyiddin said in the party’s annual general assembly that he would defend his presidency in the next party election, a day after he announced that he wanted to bow out.
The former prime minister said that he wanted to resign, but his wife told him to stay for another term.
Speaking at a Penang DAP Deepavali open house, Lim slammed Muhyiddin for citing his wife’s advice as a reason for wanting to defend his presidency.
“If it is your own decision to (make a) U-turn, then just say so,” said Lim.
“When we chose to retire (from politics), did we say this was because of our wives? No.
“But when he revoked his (earlier) decision and wanted to re-contest, he blamed his wife.
“This is a useless leader (who) twists, unlike Lim Kit Siang who retired when he said that he wanted to retire. He never cited his wife as a reason behind his retirement.”
