Who is really in charge of Chiefs? Brandon Petersen or Johnson?

Local football fans believe there may be a power struggle between Kaizer Chiefs’ interim coach Cavin Johnson and goalkeeper, Brandon Petersen.

This suspicion arose after the two were seen having a heated argument following Amakhosi’s 3-2 loss to Orlando Pirates. The 29-year-old keeper had a go at his coach after the match, which fans found unusual.

In recent matches, Petersen has been sitting on the bench and seemed to be giving some players instructions. Meanwhile, Johnson’s assistant, Dillon Sheppard, has been in the shadows, and many have questioned his role at the club.

Petersen has not played a match since Johnson took over as Chiefs coach, but he has been more involved on the sidelines. His behaviour on the bench has raised concerns among fans, but the club’s management has yet to clarify his role.

Last month, Johnson was asked about his altercation with Petersen, but the Chiefs coach played the situation down.

“It was just a normal chat with the coach, we lost the game, why do we have to fight? It’s normal, did you see Kevin De Bruyne tell Pep Guardiola to shut up? It’s normal, I want my players to react when we lose,” Johnson told the media.

“I want them to react and if they react to me then I take all that on my shoulders because tomorrow I will fix whatever the reaction is, then it’s football, I don’t want them to be nice, they have to be people who come and question you,” he concluded.

Some fans are under the impression that Johnson has lost the Chiefs locker room and Petersen has stepped up.

“Meet the new Kaizer Chiefs coach, Brandon Petersen. That’s why he was furious with Cavin Johnson after the game because Cavin kept on confusing the players after Brandon gave them good tactical advice,” tweeted @eemz_em.
