Aust quantum computing companies ‘at risk’ as Albanese gives billion dollars to US startup
Shadow Minister for Digital Economy Paul Fletcher fears the Albanese government choosing a US based start-up to build a commercially viable quantum computer in Brisbane will do damage to quantum computing companies already based here in Australia.

The government committed $940 million to PsiQuantum’s development of what will be the world’s first commercially usable quantum computer.
“I think there is a real question on the impact this might have on market perceptions of all of those other Australian based quantum computing companies,” Mr Fletcher told Sky News Australia host Peta Credlin.
“The Australian government is effectively saying we’ve looked across the board and we’ve chosen PsiQuantum instead of all the Australian based companies.
“A number of those companies have raised significant money in the private marketplace and are making very solid progress.
“So, I think there is a non-trivial risk that this actually does damage to a number of well developed, locally based, quantum computing companies.”
