Ateneo still top PH university in Asia for 2024 – survey

MANILA, Philippines: The Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) remained the top university from the Philippines in Asia, although its ranking in dropped from last year, according to a survey on schools of higher learning in the region.
From 84th place last year, ADMU slid down to 401-500th place this year, followed by De La Salle University and University of the Philippines, both of which took home 501-600th place, according to the 2024 Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings.
It was also a significant decline for UP, which ranked 201-250th place in 2023.
The University of Santo Tomas (UST), meanwhile, entered the Times ranking for the first time, joining Mapua University in the 601+ place ranking.
Several state universities and colleges also participated in the ranking as “reporters” or schools that were active in the ranking process despite being unranked.
They are Cebu Technological University, Central Luzon State University, Mariano Marcos State University, Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology, Tarlac Agricultural University, University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines, and Visayas State University.
Tsinghua University, Peking University, the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University Singapore, and the University of Tokyo emerged as the top five Asian Universities for this year.
According to THE, universities are judged across all their core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook – to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons available.
For 2024, THE noted that it introduced significant updates to the original methodology, while using the same 18 performance indicators as the World University Rankings.
A total of 1,127 schools across Asia participated in the survey.
