AstraZeneca admitió que su vacuna contra el Covid-19 puede causar efectos secundarios "poco comunes"

AstraZeneca admitió en documentos legales los efectos secundarios de su vacuna contra el coronavirus, según denunciaron este lunes los abogados representantes de personas del Reino Unido afectados por el síndrome de trombosis con trombocitopenia (TTS) tras recibir la dosis de esa empresa.

A pesar de ello, la farmacéutica mantiene su posición respecto a estos efectos secundarios “poco comunes”.

Según reportes de medios británicos, AstraZeneca admitió en documentos legales la posibilidad de que su vacuna contra el Covid-19 pudiera estar asociada a un efecto secundario poco común.

Estas declaraciones surgieron en el contexto de una demanda colectiva en el Reino Unido, donde se alega que la vacuna, desarrollada en colaboración con la Universidad de Oxford, causó lesiones graves en algunos casos.

La compañía había mencionado la posibilidad de este efecto adverso en un documento publicado en 2021, pero ahora niega haber cambiado su postura en documentos judiciales.

La demanda argumenta que la vacuna provocó reacciones adversas graves en algunas personas, afectando profundamente a varias familias.

Las demandas contra AstraZeneca

Este reconocimiento por parte de AstraZeneca podría abrir paso a un acuerdo de compensación de hasta 125 millones de dólares para los demandantes, según informó The Telegraph.

Inicialmente, el laboratorio rechazó estas afirmaciones, pero posteriormente las aceptó en un documento legal presentado ante el Tribunal Superior, donde admitió que su formulación “puede, en casos muy raros, causar TTS”, es decir, síndrome de trombosis con trombocitopenia, que puede resultar en la formación de coágulos en la sangre y un bajo recuento de plaquetas.

El Tribunal Superior del Reino Unido recibió la presentación de 51 casos de personas que afirman haber experimentado estos síntomas o sus familiares.

Según describe The Telegraph, la empresa admitió la presencia de estos casos raros como parte de su defensa legal ante la demanda de Jamie Scott, quien fue el primero en presentarla en 2023 después de sufrir una lesión cerebral irreversible tras ser vacunado en abril de 2021.
