Aston Villa suffer huge transfer blow after Arsenal star states intent

Asia's Tech News Daily

Aston Villa have been handed a huge blow to their bid to sign Emile Smith Rowe after he said he had no interest in leaving Arsenal.

Smith Rowe’s comments come just before the Premier League clash between Villa and Arsenal on Friday (October 22, 8pm kick-off).

Dean Smith had attempted to buy the 21-year-old back in the summer, but the Gunners refused any advances for their star academy graduate, reportedly turning down multiple bids worth up to £30 million.

A talented attacking midfielder, with a total of 18 goal contributions in 54 appearances for Arsenal at the time of writing, Smith Rowe was seen as the ideal replacement for the outgoing Jack Grealish, alongside Villa’s other summer signings Leon Bailey and Emiliano Buendia.

In the end, he signed a new five-year deal to stay at the Emirates, but there was still the possibility of Smith Rowe making a move to Villa Park in the future.

However, that dream now appears to be over, after the England under-21 international said in an interview that wanted to be a one-club man.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, Smith Rowe said: “If Arsenal want me for the rest of my career, then I am going to stay here forever. It is always difficult [to stay at one club], but for me personally, I’d love to be here forever.

“For me, it was easy [to sign a new contract ]. Obviously, it didn’t look like that from the outside, it looked quite difficult.

“For me, playing for Arsenal, growing up an Arsenal fan and my family around me, it was easy. Growing up in London, I didn’t want to move out of London. It was probably one of the easiest decisions I’ve made.”

When questioned about his ambitions, he added: “Hopefully, some trophies. I think that’s what it is about, really, creating the memories.

“Definitely [winning] the Premier League would be great with Arsenal. For me, I have just got to focus on Arsenal and try to play as well as I can. We will see what happens.”
