Speaking with People, the 68-year-old said: ‘This book is dedicated to my mother and my brother and our time together as a small, funny little unit.

‘It’s dedicated to anyone who’s found themselves on a scary path, not of their choosing or dealing with loss.’

According to a press release obtained by DailyMail.com, her memoir is ‘semi-autobiographical’ and focuses on her life in New York City with her mother, Emma Harris – who tragically passed in 2010 – and her brother, Clyde K. Johnson – who died in 2015.

The actress announced that she will touch on the tragic moment her mom came home from the hospital with no memory of her kids – adding that it defined her as a person.

‘[It was] the exact moment the trajectory of Goldberg’s life changed,’ read the press release.

Whoopi has previously opened up about her profound loss on Loose Women, admitting that she didn’t know how much she ‘depended’ on her mother and brother until they passed.

The TV personality – who lost her mom due to complications following a stroke – admitted being the ‘baby’ of the family has forced her to ‘grow up.’

Whoopi revealed that she wants the book to serve as a way to keep her loved ones’  memory alive.

Further in the press release, Rick Bleiweiss, Blackstone’s Head of New Business, added: ‘Whoopi Goldberg is an icon and superstar whose work I have thoroughly enjoyed and admired for many years.

‘She also happens to be a person with a great deal of humanity… it is a fascinating and compelling read.’

The actress has previously written many children’s books, including Alice and the Sugar Plum Ballerina Series, and she published an adult book titled ‘If Someone Says “You Complete Me”…Run!’

Whoopi’s new memoir – which is set to be released later this year on May 7 – is highly anticipated by fans who are looking forward to hearing more about the Academy Award winner’s life through her own words.

The actress rose to stardom in 1984 when debuted on Broadway in Whoopi Goldberg, which was developed from her one-woman show The Spook Show.

A year later, she received her first starring film role in The Color Purple, where she received an Academy Award nomination or Best Actress.

After starring in the film Ghost, she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She has since become known as a talk show host on The View.
