Following mob lynching of a student leader, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has assigned Special DGP GP Singh to personally supervise the inquiry of the incident and stated that the case will be taken up in the fast track court.
A youth was beaten to death in Upper Assam’s Jorhat on Monday. All Assam Students’ Union (Aasu) leader Animesh Bhuyan, Pranay Datta and journalist Mridusmanta Baruah were attacked by the mob.
Mob gathered after these people rushed to assist an accident victim. The police have arrested 13 people in this connection.
Sarma condemned the incident perpetrated by an irate mob which led to the death of Animesh Bhuyan, a youth leader and expressed his condolence over the unfortunate loss of life of the student leader.
Sarma termed the incident very unfortunate and said that the government in power will never tolerate such an incident as those culprits involved in the incident will be tried in fast track court to hand them exemplary punishment.
Meanwhile, directed by the Chief Minister, Education Minister Dr. Ranuj Pegu visited the house of the deceased, met the bereaved family members and expressed the deep condolences on behalf of the people of Assam.
Sarma directed the Assam Police to file a charge sheet of the incident in one month and asked Special DGP GP Singh to personally supervise the inquiry of the incident. The Chief Minister also said that as a benign gesture of the government, a cheque of Rs. 5 lakhs be handed over to the family of the deceased.Internet Explorer Channel Network
