Untreated acute pancreatitis can cause infection or pus collection in the pancreas which may progress to sepsis. In severe cases, it may cause multiple organ failure. Multiple episodes of acute pancreatitis may cause chronic pancreatitis, which in turn may cause pancreatic enzyme deficiency, chronic diarrhea and diabetes.
