Anthony-Martial-2
Manchester United could save themselves £22million a year in wages with the players that are out of contract at Old Trafford this summer.
With Sir Jim Ratcliffe keen on building a new squad that can take United to the next level, several big names could end up leaving the club in the summer.
We’ve taken a look through the numbers on Capology of those who could leave this summer and how much the Red Devils could potentially save on their salaries.
Anthony Martial – £13million
The biggest saving that United can make is on Martial who is currently taking home an annual salary of £13million. While the Red Devils do hold the option to extend his deal by a further year, it seems unlikely that United will trigger this extension.
Martial has spent the last eight and a half years at the club and could probably do with a fresh start himself. While a January exit has been rumoured, his agent Philippe Lamboley has said this will not be the case.
“Anthony will not leave Man United [in January] and will stay until his contract ends in June,” Lamboley recently confirmed.
Sofyan Amrabat – £3.38million
United have a big decision to make when it comes to Amrabat. The Moroccan midfielder is currently on loan and United have the option to purchase him for around £21.4million.
The Sun have claimed that United are unlikely to sign the midfielder on a permanent basis as the 27-year-old hasn’t exactly set the world alight during his first few months with the club.
In the Premier League, Amrabat has only started in seven matches and the Red Devils could explore alternatives to the midfielder in the summer.
Along with saving a hefty chunk of change on a transfer fee, United would also save around £3.38million on their wage bill by not signing Amrabat.
Jonny Evans – £3.38million
Evans’ return to Old Trafford caught plenty of people off guard in the summer, particularly as he’d just been relegated from the Premier League with Leicester City.
The 36-year-old has filled a gap this season though and has been called upon plenty of times. It remains to be seen if United will offer him a contract extension.
Tom Heaton – £2.34million
The last saving that United could make on their wage bill is with Heaton, who is also out of contract come the summer.
With the arrival of Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir in the summer, Heaton is the third-choice shot-stopper these days. His experience behind the scenes could be useful, although we wouldn’t expect him to get much first-team action.
According to Capology, Heaton is currently earning a weekly wage of £45,000 which could be spread elsewhere if he is released in the summer.
