Mikel Arteta admitted that his Arsenal side “lacked quality” as they dropped points against Sean Dyche’s Burnley on Sunday.

The Gunners had the chance to move back into the top four this weekend as they faced Burnley at the Emirates.

They were unable to make the most of this opportunity as they dropped points against the Clarets.

Arsenal had 20 shots and over 75% possession but they did not capitalise as they drew 0-0 against Dyche’s side.

This result leaves them sixth in the Premier League. They are two points behind fourth-placed Man Utd, who have played two more games.

The Gunners face Wolves in their first game after the Premier League break on February 10.

As quoted by BBC Sport, Arteta suggested post-match that the last four weeks for Arsenal have been “extremely difficult”:

“We started slow, we looked leggy and didn’t have enough rhythm or intention to attack the way we wanted. Then we started to play better, with more rhythm and threat and came out in the second half completely different.

“We tried in every different way but lacked the quality in the final third. In the end, when we have a really low block, you need spark and creativity to win football matches and today we didn’t do that.

“It is what they do, they want to play a slow game, it takes longer. It is their game and you have to respect that.

“We need to start scoring goals and get back the players, the last four weeks it has been extremely difficult to put training sessions and squads together because of the amount of Covid and injuries.”

On Arsenal’s January transfer plans: “In this market things are complicated.”

Gunners goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale added that Arsenal played into Burnley’s hands:

“I will give credit to Burnley, we know what they are about, it is frustrating from our behalf because we were putting balls into the box and that’s meat and drink for Burnley.

“We didn’t create that quality we needed. At the moment we are depleted. The lads have played a lot of minutes, I don’t want to make any excuses. We have time to regroup now.”
