Art institutions in Norway receive NOK 20 million for purchases

The Norwegian government is giving 16 museums a total of NOK 20 million for art purchases and exhibitions. Since March last year, museums in Norway have received NOK 88 million.

Minister of Culture Abid Raja (V) said that during the pandemic it has been an important move to target money for the purchase of Norwegian contemporary art, crafts and design.

On Saturday, the government announced that museums across the country will receive NOK 20 million for art purchases and exhibitions. Since March 2020, museums across the country have been allocated NOK 88 million for art purchases from galleries and exhibition venues in Norway – or directly from the artist.

The purchases will be linked to artists who mainly live and work in Norway.

The following institutions have been awarded money: KODE (2 million), Museene i Sør-Trøndelag (2), Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum (2), Museet Midt (1), Henie Onstad Kunstsenter (1), Drammens Museum (1), Vestfoldmuseene (1), Lillehammer Museum (1), Preus Museum (1), Sørlandets Kunstmuseum (1), Haugalandmuseet (1), Museum Stavanger (1), Musea i Sogn and Fjordane (1), VITI (1), and RiddoDuottarmuseat by Sametinget (1).

In addition, NOK 2 million is allocated to project SKINN – See Art in Northern Norway (Norwegian: Se Kunst i Nord-Norge), for the production of exhibitions and more.
