    Martinelli on fine form

Martinelli, 21, established himself as a regular first team starter under Mikel Arteta last season having made 36 appearances across all competitions.

He has also started this season in fine form, nabbing two goals from Arsenal's opening two games.

And now, former United defender Rio Ferdinand believes he could push on even further, potentially to become 'the next Suarez'.

Suarez scored 82 goals and assisted 47 in 133 appearances for Liverpool during his three-year stint at Anfield.

So if Martinelli can hit similar heights, Arsenal could potentially find themselves challenging for the league title in future.

The Gunners currently sit second in the Premier League table with a maximum six points.

Martinelli could be 'the next Suarez', says Rio

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has compared Arsenal youngster Gabriel Martinelli to former Liverpool and Barcelona striker Luis Suarez.

When speaking on his Vibe with Five YouTube channel, he said: “Martinelli, if he stays fit, this guy, I’ve told you this before what Arteta told me, he could be the next Suarez-type player.

“Even Brendan Rodgers, I was interested in Rodgers’ comments, he said that Arsenal have gone up a level with their additions, so it looks positive with you guys.”

Jesus thinks he's back to his best

Gabriel Jesus reckons his back to his best at Arsenal.

Speaking after his brace against Leicester City, he said: “I feel like I’m back to being the Gabriel from before.

“Thinking that I am the number 9, that I’m there to finish, to help, not to only score goals as well. I’m back.

“As I’ve said before, I’m a little bit like a ‘Varzea’ player. I’m not a robot that stays put, I move, I want to fight, want to compete.

“Today, I almost scored with a great ball from Aaron Ramsdale, I fought and almost got the goal. And that is the Gabriel (from before).”

    Ferdinand shuts down Saliba comparisons

Rio Ferdinand isn’t fond of the comparisons being drawn between him and William Saliba.

Ferdinand reckons Saliba’s still got a long way to go before he can be compared to him, although the Arsenal defender’s had a great start.

Ferdinand said: “People are drawing comparisons. It’s a madness. Give the boy time, man, give him some time, but he is doing well.”

“Saliba is showing great potential. Young Player of the Year in France last year. He has got a lot to do here to make sure he stays in the team, but he has started off very very well.”

    Bring the Moise

Manchester United and Arsenal are set to battle it out for Brighton star Moises Caicedo.

According to the Mirror, both United and the Gunners are interested in signing Caicedo before deadline day.

The Ecuador international starred in the Seagulls’ opening day win over the Red Devils at Old Trafford.

The midfielder also caught the eye in Saturday’s draw against mega-rich Newcastle.

And the 20-year-old’s performances late on last season have also been taken into account by suitors

Aar you going to marry me?

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has confirmed he is engaged to girlfriend Georgina Irwin.

The England star, 24, got down on one knee in a romantic hotel proposal last week to leave Georgina, 26, stunned.

Pictures posted by Ramsdale to Instagram show a disbelieving Georgina walking into a lavishly decorated room filled with flowers, balloons and pictures of the pair.

The Arsenal goalkeeper arranged for the words 'Marry Me?' to be spelled out in huge letters across the room.

Vieira and Smith Rowe get minutes for the U21s

Gunners’ attacking midfielder Fabio Vieira stepped up in his return to fitness for the U21s last night.

Arsenal faced Swansea in the Premier League Cup opener and won 2-1.

Useful 45-minute workouts were given to Vieira and Emile Smith Rowe.

Midfielder Mauro Bandeira, 18, who signed his first pro contract in the summer hit the post late on.

Josh Thomas’s early opener was overturned by a curler from Joel Ideho and a rocket from Cedric Soares.

The Swans had Joe Thomas sent off before the break.

But after taking off attacking midfielders Vieira and Smith Rowe, Arsenal’s dominance was not quite so great after the break.

Pepe speculation after agent spotted in France

Nicolas Pepe’s agent has sparked speculation the Arsenal winger could return to France.

The Ivory Coast star, 27, seems further away from a regular place this season as Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Emile Smith Rowe continue to progress.

And the £72million record buy’s representative has been spotted in France.

The summer arrivals of striker Gabriel Jesus and attacking midfielder Fabio Vieira also appear to have weakened Pepe’s chances.

So it would be no surprise if he did depart the Emirates this month.

    Bellerin offered to Barca

Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin has reportedly offered himself to Barcelona on a free transfer as he looks for a way out of the Emirates.

    Nice move for ex-Gooner Ramsey

Nice have confirmed the free transfer arrival of Aaron Ramsey after the Arsenal icon was released by Juventus.

Despite having a year left on his contract in Turin, the Old Lady decided to terminate his contract at the Allianz Stadium.

It was reported over the weekend how the Ligue 1 side were keen on bringing the 31-year-old to the Allianz Riviera.

And it is believed that the Wales international turned down the chance to follow compatriot Gareth Bale to America.

Charlotte FC were willing to make Ramsey their highest-paid player on a two-year deal, but he has decided to try his luck in France.

    Morning, Arsenal fans

Fit-again duo Fabio Vieira and Emile Smith Rowe were overshadowed by Cedric Soares' sensational winner for Arsenal under-21s.

But the Gunners' main joy was the impressive showing of £30million summer recruit Vieira.

The ex-Porto livewire and fellow midfielder Smith Rowe were rested at half-time, with the scoring complete in a  2-1 win over Swansea.

Arsenal have been one of the quietest clubs for transfer speculation in the past 24 hours.

But Nicolas Pepe’s agent sparked speculation the £72m ex-Lille winger could return to France.

The Ivory Coast star's representative was spotted in the country where Pepe fared best.

Wolves are reportedly standing firm on their £50m valuation of Pedro Neto – rated the dream wing option for Emirates boss Mikel Arteta.

And Brighton could struggle to keep hold of Ecuador midfielder Moises Caicedo, who's been linked to Arsenal this summer.

But Manchester United are rated a more likely destination for the 20-year-old

Lastly, ex-Arsenal skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could reject United for Chelsea as Barcelona are happy to cash in.

    Revenues soar despite Covid hit

Premier League club revenues grew eight per cent to £4.9billion in 2020-21 season despite Covid almost wiping out matchday takings. writes TOM BARCLAY.

That is according to the latest annual football finance review from respected number-crunchers Deloitte.

Supporters were shut out from the majority of fixtures in the 20-21 campaign because of the pandemic.

It hit all clubs in the pocket with total matchday revenue falling to just £31million for Premier League sides.

Yet England’s top flight was still the only one of the ‘big five’ European leagues – including La Liga, Ligue Un, the Bundesliga and Serie A – to improve total operating profits in the year.

Cumulatively, that figure rose from £49m to £479m.

The increase is largely down to deferred cash from broadcasters, who paid out a £330m rebate which had been suppressed from the previous campaign.

Yet pre-tax losses remained high, even if they did go down from just shy of a billion pounds in 19-20 to £669m.

It was the third straight year Premier League clubs have reported pre-tax losses, with only Wolves, Sheffield United, Man City and Leeds reporting a pre-tax profit in 20-21.

    Good By to England

EXCLUSIVE: Jamie-Bynoe-Gittens is the latest Englishman about to become big in the Bundesliga, writes CHARLIE WYETT.

Like Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham before him, the Prem’s biggest clubs are likely to be looking at Bynoe-Gittens’ progress at Borussia Dortmund and kicking themselves.

arsenal transfer news live: youri tielemans talks latest, nicolas pepe exit, lucas paqueta top priority, yeremy pino bid

Since turning 18 just 10 days ago, the lad from Reading has scored his first senior goal for the German giants and signed a new long-term deal.

So life is certainly moving fast for the right-footed left winger who also helped England win the European Under-19 Championships in Slovakia last month.

Due to his position and style of play, it is no surprise comparisons are being made with Sancho, who has already played an key part in Bynoe-Gittens’ career path.

Now playing at Manchester United, Sancho left Watford for Manchester City’s academy, where he spent two years before leaving for Dortmund in 2017.

So when Bynoe-Gittens was in Reading’s academy, he made the same move up north because of Sancho’s progress in Manchester, turning down Arsenal in the process.

Before then, between the ages of five and seven, he played for a team near Reading called Caversham Trents. With his dad a keen cricketer, he was torn between both sports but played for Reading and Chelsea at a very early age before sticking with his home town club until under-14 level.

Bynoe-Gittens spent two years at City before joining Dortmund as a 16-year-old in 2020, despite an offer from Bayern Munich. There is no doubt Dortmund midfielder Bellingham has helped him settle in, along with Gio Reyna, the English-born son of former Sunderland and Man City midfielder Claudio.

He said: “They have been through what I am going through. They are both young and I talk to them, on and off the pitch. This season, I want to be a starter.”

    Youri still on radar

Arsenal have been in talks with Leicester star Youri Tielemans’ agent for several “months” – but they’ve yet to make an offer.

Gunners manager Mikel Arteta is eager to add Tielemans to his squad before the transfer window slams shut at the end of the month.

And the North Londoners are said to have been laying the foundations for a summer swoop for the midfielder for the last few “months”.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said: “As for Tielemans and how this is all affecting him – my understanding is that he is a great guy, an excellent professional, and someone who is only focused on the present.

“Of course, he would like a top club. Arsenal have been in contact with his agents for months but have never submitted an official proposal yet.

“Tielemans remains a name on the Gunners’ list but surprises cannot be ruled out”

Auba could snub Utd for Chelsea

Ex-Arsenal skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could reject Manchester United and move to Chelsea instead this summer, according to reports.

Barcelona are open to selling the striker, 33, as they look to recoup funds.

Aubameyang only joined the Catalan club in February and scored 11 goals in 17 LaLiga appearances last season, sparking interest from Chelsea and United.

Erik ten Hag is keen to add the forward to his squad and United have reportedly held talks with Barca about a move.

The Gabon international worked with Thomas Tuchel previously at Borussia Dortmund and he was a big hit in Germany, scoring 141 goals in 213 appearances for the club.

A move to the Blues would also allow Aubameyang to return to London, where he spent four years with the Gunners.

And Swans' right-back Joe Thomas was sent off five minutes later.
