Murdaugh was shot in the head
Sept. 4 while on the side of the road in Hampton County. His representatives have disputed
rumors that the gunshot was self-inflicted.
South Carolina state police are investigating
accusations that Murdaugh stole money from his law firm before resigning. Murdaugh resigned
two days after he was shot.
Murdaugh’s wife, Maggie, and 22-year-old son, Paul, were fatally shot
in June at their home in Colleton County, one county east where Alex was shot.
No arrests have been made in the deaths of Maggie and Paul. Alex admitted that their deaths exacerbated a series of personal struggles. He checked into rehab shortly after resigning his position at the powerful law firm, which his family founded in 1910.
Paul had been implicated in a fatal boating accident in 2019, but the charges were dropped after he was murdered.
