GALLERY: Demolition begins at Harrisburg Mall
It’s officially the end of an era, as demolition begins on the Harrisburg Mall.
Fences and barriers now replace shoppers, blocking off areas where the demolition has started.
The work is kicking off on the back of the building, where the Macy’s was once located.
St. John’s Properties says the demolition is expected to be complete in 2025, turning the area into the “Swatara Exchange,” a mixed-use business community for offices and retail.

Bass Pro Shops and Applebee’s Grill + Bar will remain operating and open throughout the changes.

The old Toys R Us across the street will be marketed for new use.
St. John Properties said the new “Swatara Exchange” and its 12 buildings will bring 1,000 new jobs to the region.
