HOUSTON – Las lluvias que azotaron severamente a zonas al norte fuera del área metropolitana llegaron este jueves en la mañana a nuestra región con intensidad.

Zonas como Cleveland, The Woodlands, Spring, Shenandoah, Conroe y Roman Forest, entre otras, empezaron a recibir intensas lluvias poco antes de la 8 a.m.

Algunas de estas tormentas llegaron acompañadas con fuertes vientos de hasta 60 millas por hora.

Este jueves en la mañana se empezaron a ver nuevamente calles anegadas en la zona norte y noreste del área metropolitana, incluida la autopista 50 en el área de New Caney. Áreas que ya habían registrado inundaciones por el vertimiento de agua sobre el río San Jacinto.

Sin embargo, en las siguientes horas se empezaron a ver fuertes lluvias sobre la zona norte del área metropolitana, al punto que se emitieron varios avisos de tormentas severas para partes de los condados Harris, Fort Bend y Brazoria.

Cabe destacar que las zonas más al norte del área metropolitana de Houston como Huntsville recibieron hasta 12 pulgadas de lluvia en las últimas 24 horas.

A este panorama se suma el vivido durante el miércoles que se centró en áreas adyacentes al río San Jacinto que se vieron anegadas por el desborde de sus aguas.

De hecho, el miércoles se rescató a siete personas y 19 animales, informó el alguacil Ed González en su cuenta de “X”, antes Twitter.

Los residentes deben saber que el llamado de evacuación voluntaria en ciertas zonas sigue vigente en áreas al noreste del río San Jacinto, mismo que presenta un rápido crecimiento en el nivel de sus aguas y que, seguro, se agravará nuevamente con el paso de las lluvias de este jueves.

Este jueves, la Cruz Roja Americana anunció la apertura de cuatro albergues para aquellas personas afectadas por las inundaciones dejadas por las fuertes lluvias de los últimos días.

La administradora ejecutiva del condado de Harris, Lina Hidalgo, mencionó que zonas como Idle Glen e Idle Wilde así como Commons of the Lake Houston están en riesgo, por el rápido crecimiento del nivel del río.

Así como River Terrace, Cypress Point y áreas de Kingwood.

“Deben tomar la decisión de salir de su casa ahora o si deciden permanecer allí tienen que saber que no podrán salir en al menos de 24 a 36 horas porque la zona estará posiblemente inundada”, agregó.

También se esperan inundaciones generalizadas en las tierras bajas a lo largo del río. Entre ellas, la FM-1485 quedará sumergida bajo varios pies de agua y se considerará intransitable, advirtieron las autoridades.

El río San Jacinto podría registrar un aumento de nivel significativo entre 10 a 15 pies debido a las fuertes lluvias río arriba de las tormentas de días anteriores.
