Aquaman 2 star Amber Heard faced controversy amid the legal case involving ex-husband Johnny Depp, and the film suffered many delays. Even after many issues, the DCEU movie hits theaters on December 22. Although fans are excited about the sequel, early reviews hint that the DCEU might conclude negatively.
According to early reviews, Aquaman 2 didn’t seem to impress critics, earning an initial score of 37% on Rotten Tomatoes from 70 reviews at the time of writing. With this initial score, Aquaman 2 has now become one of the worst-rated DCEU movies, nestled between Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (29%) and Black Adam (38%) in terms of reviews. The Aquaman 2 Rotten Tomatoes score makes it the worst-rated DCEU movie of 2023. Earlier this year, Shazam! Fury of the Gods earned a critical rating of 49%, while The Flash ended up having a score of 63%. On the other hand, Blue Beetle turned out to be one of the best-rated movies for the franchise, with a critical rating of 78% on RT.
It’s hard to determine how Aquaman 2 will fare on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the sequel would need several more positive reviews to enter the “Fresh” category. Though a few reviewers enjoyed the last DCEU movie, they’re in the minority. Most reviews have stated that DC’s fading cinematic universe is ending quietly, leaving them unimpressed with the sequel.
