La canciller mexicana, Alicia Bárcena, comenzó este miércoles una gira por Ciudad Juárez, en la frontera norte de México, y por Texas (Estados Unidos) para abordar el flujo migratorio y la polémica Ley SB4, que permite a autoridades texanas detener y deportar a migrantes.

Bárcena visitará en Texas las urbes de El Paso, San Antonio, Eagle Pass y Laredo para tratar temas de migración, infraestructura fronteriza, comercio y reuniones con aliados estratégicos sobre las acciones que México realiza ante la Ley SB4 y otras iniciativas legales antimigrantes, según una nota informativa de la Cancillería.

“La canciller tendrá una agenda intensa. Hoy miércoles inicia con un recorrido por uno de los centros integradores para migrantes de Ciudad Juárez para después seguir con diversas reuniones de trabajo en El Paso, Texas”, apuntó la Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores (SRE).

Durante la gira, que durará hasta el 20 de abril, Bárcena visitará El Paso Healing Garden, un memorial dedicado a las más de 20 personas, la mayoría de origen mexicano, que murieron por el tiroteo del 3 de agosto de 2019 en esa ciudad, donde se reunirá con familiares de las víctimas.

Entre los funcionarios que acompañarán a la secretaria están Roberto Velasco Álvarez, jefe de Unidad para América del Norte de la SRE; Vanessa Calva Ruiz, directora general de Protección Consular y Planeación Estratégica, y Cristina Plantea Riebeling, directora general de Asuntos Políticos para América del Norte.

La visita ocurre en medio de la creciente presión para abordar el flujo migratorio en la frontera este 2024, cuando coinciden las elecciones presidenciales de México y Estados Unidos.

La tensión aumentó desde el año pasado, cuando el gobernador de Texas, Greg Abbott, colocó una cerca de púas en la frontera y ahora busca implementar la Ley SB4 para que las autoridades estatales puedan realizar tareas migratorias, una facultad del Gobierno federal.

La Corte de Apelaciones del Quinto Circuito de Estados Unidos bloqueó la medida el 18 de marzo y ahora analiza su validez.
