Ahead of LS polls, BJP plans simultaneous yatras across Telangana

The Telangana BJP has planned to carry out simultaneous yatras (marches) across the state covering all 17 Parliamentary constituencies ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The yatras will get underway tomorrow (Tuesday).

A host of the party’s national leaders, including Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will participate in the Vijaya Sankalpa Yatras that include meetings and road shows en route as part of a mass-outreach programme.

Union Minister and Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy flagged off several vehicles for the bus yatras on Monday after conducting a ceremonial puja (sanctification) at the Bhagyalakshmi Temple in the state capital.

With the speculation over a possible alliance between the BRS and the BJP rife in the state, party’s Telangana State President G Kishan Reddy painstakingly clarified that the BJP won’t ally with any party for the Lok Sabha elections. “BJP will fight on its own on all the 17 seats and win a majority of the seats,” he asserted.

“BJP leaders and workers will work hard for the party to enable it to come to power for the third time at the Centre under the leadership of Narendra Modi so that the people of Telangana can participate in the Central government,” he said exuding confidence.

To cover all the 17 Lok Sabha constituencies, and 119 assembly constituencies and reach out to one crore people, the Telangana unit of the party has decided to hold five yatras simultaneously beginning tomorrow to culminate on 2 March. The first yatra will set off from Basara in North Telangana, the second from Tandur, the third from Matkal, the fourth from Bhadrachalam and the fifth from Bhongir.

However, in view of a tribal festival, Medaram Jathara, the yatra from Bhadrachalam will be flagged off on 25 February by the chief minister of Chhattisgarh.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma will flag off the yatra from Basara while his counterpart from Goa, Pramod Sawant, will do the same at Bhongir.

Union Minister Parshottam Rupala will flag off the yatra from Makthal along with state BJP President G Kishan Reddy. Another Central minister, BL Verma, will kick off the yatra from Tandur which will cover the constituencies in and around Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

Each of the yatras has been named after a female deity, such as the one covering Hyderabad and Secunderabad has been named after Bhagyalakshmi.
