90% of people don’t find representation under PM Modi-led Centre: Rahul Gandhi

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Sunday that 90 per cent of Indians “don’t find representation” under the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government. He took the swipe at PM Modi while addressing a gathering in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

“The country constitutes 50 per cent people from the Backward Classes community, 15 per cent minorities, 15 per cent people from (the) Dalit community, and eight per cent people from (the) Adivasi community, which means that 90 per cent of the people in this country do not find representation in the Modi government,” Rahul Gandhi said.

The Congress leader said that the Agniveer scheme was launched to shut down “the way to prosperity for 90 per cent of Indians”.

“We cannot progress as a nation if we leave millions of our fellow citizens behind. It’s time for a government that works for the people, not just for a select few,” he added.

The former Congress chief also accused PM Modi of “economic mismanagement” and “divisive politics.”

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the country has witnessed a sharp rise in unemployment, farmers have been left to fend for themselves, and economic inequality has widened,” Rahul Gandhi said.

He accused the central government of favouring crony capitalism over the welfare of the masses and criticised its handling of various crises, including the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav joined the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Agra. This came days after Congress and the Samajwadi Party finalised a seat-sharing deal in the Opposition-led INDIA alliance ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
