A viral video shows the restaurant's sign in the Jordanian city of Kerak
The opening of a kebab shop named ‘October 7’ in Jordan has been called ‘disgraceful’ as it allegedly glorifies the Hamas massacre.
A video shared on social media shows the restaurant in the Jordanian city of Kerak, which features a big sign reading ‘October 7’ over the entrance. Staff members can be seen wearing the joint’s name emblazoned on their uniforms.
The footage caused fury in Israel, where leaders condemned the restaurant owner for seemingly naming his kebab shop after the Hamas massacre, which saw the terrorists kill more than 1200 people.
Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid shared the video of the eaterie on X, formerly known as Twitter, and wrote: ‘The disgraceful glorification of October 7th has to stop.
‘The incitement and hatred against Israel breeds the terrorism and extremism which led to the brutal massacre of October 7th.

‘We expect the Jordanian government to condemn this publicly and unequivocally.’
Another Israeli official, Deputy Consul-General of Israel in Shanghai Eytan Halon, said: ‘While Israelis long for peace and sanctify life, some of our neighbours prefer to sanctify death.
‘This new shawarma [kebab] restaurant in Jordan’s capital, named October 7, is depraved and twisted.’
The owner denied the accusation the name was related to the Hamas attack and said he merely named it after the date his daughter graduated from university in Algeria, Israeli news site Ynet reports.
He has since renamed his kebab shop to just ‘October’ following the outrage, the unnamed owner told Ynet.

The restaurant sells kebab and pizza. Its name was allegedly suggested by a Facebook user
He reiterated that his shop, which sells both kebabs and pizza, had ‘no connection to politics’.
Ynet claims the name was suggested by a Facebook user after the owner asked his followers for name ideas for the joint.
Despite saying the name of his eaterie wasn’t political, the owner called Israel a ‘fragile and weak state’ and criticised the country for getting involved in restaurant disputes.
This comes after Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel must always retain full security control over all the territory west of Jordan – a stance that he would always insist on ‘as long as I am prime minister’.
‘If someone has a different position, let them show leadership and state their position honestly to the citizens of Israel,’ he said.
