Waiting game… Ryan Nyambe came off against Shrewsbury Town

Derby County head to Exeter City on Tuesday (7.45pm kick-off), one of their longest trips of the season, looking to maintain their automatic promotion charge.

Paul Warne’s side were held to a 1-1 draw by Shrewsbury on Saturday having taken the lead through Max Bird only for Aaron Pierre to level for the visitors late on.

It meant second-placed Derby remain six points Portsmouth at the summit, although the Rams do have a game in hand on the League One leaders. Warne will be hoping for a better outcome against the Grecians, with Gary Caldwell’s side currently in the lower half of the table.

Going into the game, Derby do have some injury concerns. Here is the latest from the treatment Pride Park room…

Ryan Nyambe

The defender came off towards the end of Saturday’s draw against Shrewsbury due to an issue with his knee. He will be checked ahead of the trip to Exeter and given every chance to prove his fitness.

Tyreece John-Jules

The on-loan Arsenal forward, who injured his hamstring against Reading, has effectively been ruled out for the season after scans showed he needs surgery. Warne doubts he will back again, which is a huge blow for the striker who has been plagued by injury problems throughout his career.

Craig Forsyth

The long-serving defender is expected to be back soon having picked up a calf injury before the win over Fleetwood just after Christmas. He was subsequently sent for a scan and the damage was “quite severe”, according to Warne, but he is getting closer to a return.

Martyn Waghorn

The striker’s last game was at the start of December, a 3-0 win over Fleetwood in the EFL Trophy. He has been nursing a calf problem, and suffered a setback during his rehab. An update on the forward’s progress is expected at the pre-Exeter press conference on Monday.

Conor Washington

The striker picked up an ankle injury while on international duty with Northern Ireland. The ligament damage he sustained required surgery. He has been working hard on his rehab and was pictured being put through his paces at the start of the month. Shouldn’t be too far away.

Jake Rooney

The centre-back sustained anterior cruciate ligament damage in the defeat to Bolton in September, but is surprisingly making good progress. It is unlikely he will play for Derby again this season, but he could return to training before the season is over.
