Travel industry organization ANVR is happy with the plans that have been made about the European corona travel rules. In order to be able to travel freely in the European Union, travelers will probably have to get a mandatory booster shot from 1 February within nine months of their vaccination, said health minister Hugo de Jonge after consultation with his EU colleagues on Tuesday. He expects a formal decision from Brussels on this shortly.

ANVR director Frank Oostdam says that this means that you can travel through Europe again without any problems with a QR code. In connection with the new corona wave, several European countries had adjusted the travel rules, such as a mandatory extra test. Some countries have also threatened to close borders to EU travelers who have not received a booster within six months of their vaccination. The ANVR has repeatedly stated that it is in favor of uniform travel rules in the EU.

Oostdam states that the government must then ensure that people can actually get that booster shot on time. De Jonge has said he is confident that everyone in the Netherlands will be able to receive a booster shot in time. “I trust that De Jonge will keep that promise,” said Oostdam.

By the way, France will already demand a booster jab from December 15 for people who have been vaccinated with the Janssen vaccine. Oostdam believes that people with the Janssen vaccine who, for example, want to go to France for winter sports, should therefore be given priority for a booster shot.

The organization for small-scale travel organizations VvKR is also positive about the European corona proof plans. “I think it’s good, as long as you can travel again. We would like to organize and sell trips”, says a spokeswoman for the VvKR.
