Another week, another Strictly Come Dancing elimination. This time it was rugby star Ugo Monye who said his goodbyes to the ballroom after he was voted out of the dance competition.

Ugo and his professional partner Oti Mabuse danced the Rumba to Leave The Door Open but it wasn’t enough to impress viewers at home as the couple found themselves in the bottom two against CBBC presenter Rhys Stephenson.

But after Rhys and his professional partner Nancy Xu danced the American Smooth to I’ve Got The World On a String, it came down to the judge’s decision, and unfortunately, the vote didn’t go in favour of Ugo.

The judges were unanimous in their verdicts to save Rhys and Nancy over Ugo and Oti, so it meant the end of the road for the sports pundit.

Ugo, who missed Week 4 due to health reasons, said: ‘I’ve loved it. It’s an absolute privilege to be on this show and all I’ve wanted to do every week is just get a little bit better and I’ve done that.

‘There’s lots of people that I would love to say thank you to. Oti, firstly, just for putting up with me. She said she wanted a challenge and she got one!’

Viewers at home were mostly in agreement with the judge’s decision, although many of them admitted that they were sad to see Ugo go home.

Others reckoned his recent surgery made things difficult for him on the dance floor, meanwhile, some felt it was the dreaded rumba that that lead to his elimination citing it’s not his best dance.

‘Very sad to see Ugo and Oti leave,’ said one person. ‘Ugo braught Joy to the dancefloor every single week. Oti is one of the best professionals #Strictly has ever had.’

‘I felt sorry for Ugo this week as the Rumba wasn’t for him and I feel like his injury held him back which is a shame.’

‘Aww I love Ugo,’ added another person. ‘ I think he could have had another 2-3 weeks if it wasn’t for the Rumba of Doom. #Strictly

‘Sad to see Ugo go, he seems such a lovely man,’ added a third. ‘You can see he was still struggling with his back though, now he can rest and heal and he will be back dancing with Oti at the final.’

‘How has Ugo just had back surgery and back to dancing a week later? He’s definitely not back to his usual self. I loved their Moana routine, him and Oti were fab! #Strictly
