2025 Concord (Calif.) De La Salle pass rusher Matthew Johnson has committed to Oregon. He announced his decision over social media on Friday evening.
The 6-foot-5, 240-pound EDGE committed to Dan Lanning and the Ducks following a visit to Eugene last weekend for Junior Day.
Johnson is rated a four-star (0.8909) recruit according to the 247Sports Composite. The same system ranks him the No. 363 player nationally, the No. 28 EDGE and the No. 34 recruit in California.
He chose the Ducks over competing offers that included Michigan, Miami, Notre Dame and Texas A&M among others. Johnson is the first defensive commitment and the fifth overall commitment for Oregon this class.
He continues a long-standing pipeline from the Bay Area to Eugene for the Ducks, following in the footsteps of current players like defensive lineman Jericho Johnson (Fairfield) and wide receiver Jurrion Dickey (East Palo Alto). The Ducks likely had a stronger chance than most schools in his recruitment seeing that defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi attended De La Salle.
Other defensive line prospects to watch for the Ducks in 2025 include EDGE Nasir Wyatt as well as defensive lineman Trajen Odom.
