As the prices of flowers skyrocketed this Valentine’s Day, buyers came up with different strategies to make their loved ones still feel special.

According to Bernadette Reyes’ “24 Oras” report, some prefer creating a do-it-yourself (DIY) bouquet instead of ready-made ones.

“Mahal po kasi dito magpagawa dito po talaga kaya ako na mismo nag-aral para magawa ko po,” said Enrico Golosinda, flower buyer in Dangwa, Manila.

(It’s costly here to buy ready-made bouquets, so I studied how to do it.)

He said that aside from saving money, his gift can be considered priceless because of his extra effort.

Instead of fresh flowers, Liam Singco offered handmade paper flowers to his special someone.

They say that love is not measured by material things, but every Valentine’s Day, even though the prices are high, people still offer flowers to their loved ones.

“Hindi po yan nagbabase sa mahal pero yung nararamdaman nyo po kung anong klaseng bulaklak ang ibibigay nyo sa kanila,” said Mark Merluza, a buyer.

(It’s not based on the price but on what you feel, about what kind of flowers you will give them.)

The Manila Police District also earlier gave flowers to individuals who passed by Dangwa. —Sherylin Untalan/LDF, GMA Integrated News
